The dentist may instruct to avoid certain foods for the next 24 hours after extraction of the tooth. For instance, the dentist may tell you to avoid giving your child hot foods for several hours until the numbness wears off. You are going to have to make sure that you are following that instruction. The area of tooth extraction shouldn’t be brushed for the next 5 days following the procedure. The dentist may suggest rinsing of the mouth with salt water during that time. The main purpose of these instructions is to help your child get the gums healed properly. The pain and sensitivity after tooth extraction go away in a few days. However, you need to take your child to the dentist if the pain is not going away. It is necessary because it lets you know if there is an infection to deal with.
